Hi, and welcome to the forum!
My canary behaved that way toward my zebra finches. Fortunately, for the finches, he couldn't get into their cages. My vet said this sounded like hormonal behavior.
I think this is why your bird is acting this way. He probably is about a year old and has "grown up" and is ready to start a family. It is Spring, after all, when wild birds are raising families. Pet birds are affected the same way! Because your canary doesn't have a mate, he's "attacking" you, just because you're there! I don't think it's anything to worry about. He should settle down when his hormones do. In the meantime, just be patient because I doubt he could hurt you. A canary peck is nothing like a parrot bite.
Hope this helps!
>>Hi everyone this is my first post. I have had my canary for about six months and tonight for the first time he has shown me some strange behavior.

>>I was standing by his cage and he charged at me and spread his wings somewhat agressively with his mouth open. He stood like that for a couple of minutes, Hopped around his cage then came back and did it again. He now is kinda just standing in the corner and squinting at me then he comes round to the front of the cage again and starts the spread wing pose again. He has just kinda finished molting. Any explaination for this???
