Canary poo

kimforster Apr 29, 2005 03:55 AM

my canary, 8 wks old has constantly got runny poo. It's kinda dark brown, grey when dry & i was just wondering if this could be because he eats alot of greans. He does eat them like they're going outa fashion, heaps of them!!! Otherwise I would like to know if anyone else has ideas of why his poo is runny & what can I do about it. I've had him for about 4 days & he's been like that for the 4 days so far.
Thanks in advance.

It's great that you're feeding him fresh food on a daily basis! I would monitor how much you're feeding him though. There can be too much of a good thing . I would vary the diet a bit to include some other vegetables other than greens. Squash, carrots, peas, corn, eggs, ect. are usually loved as well. Pellets and seeds should be included as well to round out the diet. Just remember the poo will be a similar color to whatever he's eating. Good Luck!

thanks for that. He's getting a good variety of vege & fruits now, all he enjoys plus plenty of seed. No pellets. don't have them here. today & yesterday i cut vege & fruit outa his diet to see if thats what it was & it isn't so i'm assuming it's just stress from adjusting to a new environment. Apart from that he's pretty happy & chirps away till his hearts content so I know he definatley isn't sick.

Good! Just keep an eye on him and you will find out what is normal for him. Go easy on the fruits, once a week or so. A lot of sugar is bad for them but fruit is good for a treat (much better than some of the "treats" they have out there!). Sounds like he's liking his new home .
