Spirulina and Toucans

wolf1781 Jan 07, 2006 05:45 PM

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried spirulina with toucan to help bring out their color? I wasn't sure if the iron content of the spirulina was to much.
Thanks
Greg

There are other ways to improve their colors without adding anything major to their diet. Recently Mazuri has increased the carotein content of their pellets for just this reason. I also sprinkle plain grocery store paprika on the fresh fruit when I know my Swainson's has molted lots of body feathers. Also feed them more of the bright orange/red fruits like papaya, plums, mango, red grapes and blueberries. I've done all these and my bird's coloration has improved a lot in the past 2 years. Once the feathers are mature you can't change their color so you will have to wait for the next molt to see the results.
