Hello,

I have recently adopted a pair of zebra finchs male and a female. I was told by their previous owner that they had had a few clutchs of eggs but they had never hatched. Since adopting them they have had a small batch of eggs, 3 of them and they all hatched. Now she has started laying again and the babies are still quite young, she now has 5 eggs in one nest and 8 in the other! is this normal? I dont think it can be the babies because they apear to all be male. Any tips would be great as I am new to owning birds, and all the info I have seen says a clutch should be about five..

Thanks !!!

It would be interesting to see if they all hatch and survive. I don't know how they would handle feeding that many babies. You might want to consider getting some society finches to foster them. Are they sitting on both nests? Or sitting on either nest?

Why do you have two nests in there? It would seem to be easier on the birds to only have one nest (and one set of babies) to take care of.
