i was thinking about buying a spice finch, and zebra one.. but i dont now if a society finch would be better... waddo u telme?

generally finches need at least one other finch in the cage with them. You MIGHT luck out with a handraised baby finch that bonds to you, but not usually. Zebra finches breed like bunnies.... society finches are great foster parents for gouldian finches. Society finches are not a naturally occuring finch from what I understand. I think they are a hybrid, made by mixing other finches together.

Finches need a cage that is at least 30 inches long (not tall) to fly and stretch their wings. The more finches you put in, the bigger the cage you need. Don't fill it up with toys, as they need the open space. You will need a few perches in there, I generally put them towards the ends of the cage. Use a few different width perches to stretch their feet and give them a choice. They ALWAYS need fresh water to drink, so clean their water dishes at least once a day and refill with clean water. They also need food, it takes a lot of energy to fly those tiny bodies.

Finches generally do not like to be handled, it stresses them out. That is why you need the larger cage. The cage bars should be no bigger than 1/2 inch apart, some say smaller. Of course, the smaller the finch, the tighter the space between bars should be.
