Im am 14 years of age and a new owner of zebra finches.
I have a male and female named Sid & Star.
I have had them almost 2 weeks and they are enjoying themselves very much.
I have bought them to breed them but would like advice. I have a fairly large nestbox inside the cage, the nest box is tear-drop shaped, made out of something like straw im not sure and it has a hole in the front.
They use it to sleep in and the pair cuddle up nicely, I have provided hay for them to use and nesting material and the male has taken some in but hasnt made the nest that is described they make on websites. It is just taken in a squashed down from where they have slept on it. Why aren't they breeding or making the proper nest? Is it a long time before they start to breed? And can you tell me some alternative nesting material which can be found around the home.
