Getting new cage, need advice

EmilyStrange7147 May 02, 2005 03:25 PM

My bird, Nikko, is currently living in a baked-enamel-bar cage. He ended up having a "sliver" of enamel lodged in his foot and I had to take him to the vet to get it taken out, and I'm going to get him a new cage, as the one he's in now is clearly a health hazard.
My question is: which is better, stainless steel, painted, or is powder-coated wrought iron an okay choice?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Well if you are wanting the very best that will last the longest then stainless steel is probably your best bet. We usually use the powder coated and have not had any troubles with them either but I know on a couple websites people have claimed to have trouble with their birds "chewing" on the powder coating and becoming sick. I don't know if this is correct or not but we have not had any problems using it with any other birds here even the few birds that do decide to chew on the coating have not had any incidinces of sickness relating to it.
