a lot of the toys are made from frayed rope and string, along w/ leather and some wood, do i need to worry about the string being a real hazard??

it does also depend on the bird. Some do choke on string & others don't. There really isn't a 100% safe toy out there. It's like anything, no matter how safe you may think it is it can become unsafe at any time. It's upto you what you do & whether or not you choose to have string. For Cricket i do choose to give him string but only one small piece at a time & i monitor it carefully. DO NOT give your bird string with a noose or loose knot it it. They are very curious birds & WILL get themselves tangled in it & this does do damage. Cricket likes to play mostly with paper & wood with bark as he can rip it apart & if I do give him string it's a single piece dangling just so he can chew on the end of it, as soon as it looks like there's part of the string missing i take it away, but this has never happened yet.
