still want cockatiels

mishy Oct 11, 2005 09:25 PM

i posted on here not too long ago asking questions about geting a cockatiel. i really wanted to get one i could hanlde alot and play with but sometimes i get way too busy to give a bird alot of attention. if i got 2 non hand feds would they be happy if i didnt give them alot of attention? it doesnt seem like the non hand feds at the pet store i work at like us messy with them very much any ways.

it's not the fact that they're non handfeds in stores so much when you talk about them not liking being handled at work. It would more likely be they're all living together in a large cage/avairy so therefor are bonding to one another & not interested in human interaction.

If you want your tiel kept friendly & tame at least 2 -3 hours a day should be spent interacting with them. I personally think 2 - 3 hrs isn't long enough but that's me. If you have them caged together they'll bond together & not be lonely but then you'll have a problem of handling them because they won't be tame. If they're caged seperately but next to one another they'll have each others company but will not bond to one another & will be more willing to interact with you when you can get the time.

actually thats exactly what i wanted, i want the birds to bond to each other and not need me for attention. i would love to have a tame bird but right now i just dont have the time to play with them for hours every day. i think they are the cutest birds and would love to add some to my home to watch and care for. thanks alot for your help, any more suggestions would be great.

I think if you got two non hand fed cockatiels, they would bond more to each other and you would not be able to play with them.
Try to get two hand fed cockatiels from a breader have their wing clipped and put them in seperate cages next to one another, I think you would have more luck in training. They make great companians, wouldnt trade mine for the world.

well again i'll repeat i dont want handfed birds because i cant own birds that are going to be atached to me. if i had more time i would definetly want one but thats why i need 2 birds so they will bond to each other and not me.

but any ways i already bought 2 tiels from where i work at. one is quite afraid of me but the other does not try to get away from me and will perch on me with no problem.
