acting strange

ksearle Nov 18, 2005 09:11 PM

My tiel is a year and a half old, I have had her since she was 7 weeks old. Im really not sure that she is a female, im just going by what I have researched, anyway, she has been acting wierd by putting her tail up in the air and doing a strange chirp, she sits on top of my cabinets, and does this, and has been doing this for a few days, someone told me she may be getting ready to lay eggs, is this true or should I worry something is wrong?

Is she still eating as well as always? Are her stools the same? Does she show any signs of fecal matter on or around her tail/vent area? As long as all else is normal besides the chirp and raising tail then she is probably getting ready for her first season. Otherwise if she is showing any other abnormalities then it would be time for a vet visit.

Yes she is eatting normal, stools are the same, She is normal in all ways, just the chirping and raising the tail up in the air is differant, she acts normal, Loves attention, she is like having a child all over again!! Thanks for your help.

came home from being out for the evening and found that she laid her first egg... thanks for the info..

It sounds like normal hormaonal behaviour. Cane you post a pic of her? Mine does exactly the same thing in certain places & he's male. Both male & female can display similar hormonal behaviours during parts of the year.

daisy is on her third egg, if she is going to lay anymore it should be today, anyway, her stools are really runny, is this normal?

Stools can become runny with egg laying but watch closely to make sure it does not continue and that she is still eating and drinking well so she doesn't become dehydrated. I would suggest removing the eggs and replacing with similar wooden eggs. Or removing eggs freezing and then replacing in the nest. The wooden idea just seems easier LOL! If you remove the eggs and do not replace them she may start laying eggs again soon otherwise she should be content with her new brood and become bored after they don't hatch in a few weeks. The wooden eggs will not rot and can then be removed when she loses interest or when the normal hatching date would have passed if she has not lost interest by then.
