Water Supplements

Solaris16 Nov 29, 2005 10:15 AM

I bought a Hartz multi-vitamin water soluble supplement for my young pair of cockatiels. The directions say to add 2-3 drops daily to their food or water.

Is this something that is recommended for use? Or is it just a useless (or even harmful?) product distributed by people looking to make money?

Any insight on whether I should be using this with my birds would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Wendy

I don't know if any of them are useless, I don't use them at all. I think it's only ideal if you're unable to give your birds a good variety of veggies, seed, grasses, shoots etc...then the vit supliment will probably be a good idea. If they get a good variety i'd say the supliment is just a waste of time. I also don't like the idea of supliments of any kind going into their water, it can contaminate it too easily. If you're concerned about their supliment intake give them plenty of variety of foods at all times. You can also use pellets as a supliment, again I don't entirely like them either but that's my personal choice. If you do choose pellets make sure you read the ingredients properly as some do contain nothing more than sugar & fat.
I hope this has helped
