Feeding Tiel Parents

kiddwiggins Jan 28, 2006 07:09 PM

I have a pair of tiels currently feeding a clutch. The pair is acting as if they are starving and not eating the food I am offering. The only thing they get excited about in boiled egg yolk and wheat bread, which I give once a day. Does anyone know how often I can give them boiled yolk? I don't want to give them too much as I am unsure. I'm feeding them 3 times a day a cooked mixture of brown rice, corn, mashed beans, oat groats & red wheat a long w/ fresh veg & fruit. They have pellet/seed mixture and millet sprigs at all times and fresh water.

Any suggestions on anything else I might try?

Please email me at kiddwiggins@yahoo.com with any suggestions or advice.

Thanks

You might try some of the actual egg feeding formula you can buy at many pet stores. I don't breed birds so am not sure exactly how often you could feed egg yolks to a pair feeding a clutch. Have you tried any other favorite foods that they usuall eat to try and entice them into eating something else. I do know that they can sometimes become pretty picky while feeding young. One person told me theirs loved to eat warmed oatmeal with baked sweet potato mixed in when they were feeding young which would be a healthy combo if they will eat it. YOu could possibly try that
