HELP ASAP!

Parakeet Apr 02, 2006 04:20 PM

hello,
I have just gotten a cockatiel from a friend and her wing appears to be broken.. Now I know that she had fallen in her cage a few weeks ago and started bleeding trememdously (SP?) the bleeding stopped fortunatly.. I can see where she had been bleeding and she is lifting up the opposite wing and picking at her feathers.. There also could be a feather poking her but im pretty sure her wing is indeed broken..besides from vet care How do I treat this? Gause? but how do i put this gause on. I have found no websites explaining this. I have been involved with birds for about 6 years and this has never occured and i am puzzled at how to treat this.. and dont worry she will be seeing a vet VERY soon. If you could give me some feed back very soon it would be great..

Thanks

are you sure she didn't break a blood feather and it is now poking her?

I'd take her to a vet anyway just to make sure she is alright, bird bones are very hard healers I wouldn't risk self vetting them.

Actually Rouen,
I believe your right.. Her wing isn't drooping, but she is lifting it up and picking at it.. We believe something is poking her, because her feathers are in poor condition from lact of attention and proper care.. Luckly she wound up at my house were she will be loved and given attention from the other three birds and myself. She will be great in no time. A vet check will be sometime this week. Thanks for the help Rou,
