When to take infertile eggs from nest.

ChristianC Aug 08, 2006 07:57 PM

I have a pair that recently laid thier first clutch. 6 eggs total. Only one was fertile. The fertile egg hatched 2 days ago and the chick seems to be doing fine. My question is when should i remove the infertile eggs?

Sometimes an egg will surprise you and hatch even after 5 days longer than the others. Do you know in what order the eggs were layed or how many days apart she layed them? Since they do lay their eggs sometimes 1-2 days apart(each egg, it could have spanned 6-7 days with that many eggs) you need to allow the time that would have lapsed in between the first egg being layed and the last egg. If the parents are taking care of the baby that hatched and it has been several days (allowing for longer in case of later layed eggs)then go ahead and remove the other eggs.
