You keep the birds outside? I'm from NY so of course we can't do that... weather isnt warm enough, but I would suggest letting them play outside in the big cage during the day and when the sun starts to set bring them inside to a bedtime cage and cover them up...the cat will keep coming back because the meal is already trapped, it just needs to figure out how to get inside. Good Luck!!

We are from Missouri so keeping birds outside here all year long is also a big no, LOL! We do in the summer take birds outside during the day. In fact we have an indoor outdoor cage for the macaws which is sealed well, during the summer they go outside during the day and then we close the outside door at night so they have to stay in. We have also had to place screen wire around the outside of the cage to keep out mosquitoes and other insects that might carry parasites or sickness. I would also suggest if at all possible bringing the birds in during the night. Stress can cause sickness and death in birds and if a cat is already watching them then they will have lots of stress. Cats can also sometimes find ways into cages when we have thought they were completely safe. I have seen cats hang on a cage sticking their paw through a small opening to torment a bird and in some cases injuring them. Cockatiels are a more mellow bird and would not fight back so would make a real easy target for a cat.

Good luck with this problem.

Before I did put my birds in my house during night but as I said I got a bigger cage and I can't anymore. I was wondering if there was any way to keep cats away. I can’t change there cage cause there are just to sacred of humans right know. And I live in Southern California so the only problem is this one cat.

There is nothing wrong with putting your birds outside. I don't know anyone here who doesn't.

Anyway I don't know where you're from but you can try finding the owner of that cat & talking to them about this problem. The cat owner should be more responsible. If he isn't, go to your local council & complain about it. As I said I don't know where you're from but here cat owners have a responsibility to their cats, especially not having them outdoors at night & if the owners ignore complaints we have a right to go to the council & they will do something about it themselves. We are not allowed to take matters into our own hands though.
