Breeding Hets.....

peterUK Oct 12, 2003 02:54 PM

Today I got a hatchling pair of Tangerine Hondurans
The male is het for albino and the female is het for hypo.
Could someone please tell me what I will get when these are bred together (apart from baby snakes )is there a way to work out the percentages of morths that I should get ?
Thank you

Bred together you will produce all normal looking babies that are all possible dbl-hets.They will have a 50% chance of being het for hypo and for albino.

Not the best pairing if you ask me?

Thank you for replying. I had hoped that wasnt going to happen.I just wasnt sure But they are very nice looking and were such a good price that I couldnt turn them down.

So all that I have to do now is get another het for hypo or albino and that should produce 100% hypo's or albino's ? or would I get 50% normal looking but double het and 50% of the strain that the parents are het for ?

This doing my brain in just thinking about it !!!!!!!!

Thanks Peter

If you get a het for albino (and/or a het for hypo) and breed it to the het for the same morph you already have (het albino X het albino) you will statistically get 25% albinos.

The number of Albinos (or hypos) produced can vary in a small clutch but in the long run will be about 25%. The rest of the siblings will look normal and have a 66% chance of being het themselves. Good luck.
