C'Mon all your Tiel lovers.....

sandybeth Jan 01, 2007 07:23 AM

Let's start posting more! I love this intelligent forum but it just isn't active enough. I've tried other bird forums, but the posts are too immature, silly, & off-topic, so I want this one to continue. I don't think we post enough so any possible new people are discouraged and don't log on again. Our little Tiels are so great (at least mine is) that we must have enough to post about! Can we try harder in 07?

That may be why there is little postings, because there is no off topic or silly posts. Just questions when they come up.

I check in every day
Ok I love in Fremantle, Western Australia & this is Cricket, one of my birds, he's a 2 year old normal grey cockatiel. Sometimes a real character, other times real bratty.

Are these real or fake plants? Does Cricket chew on them? My bird would be chewing on these plants so I'd have to check them out so they wouldn't be poisonous.

Real plants. You shouldn't have poisonous plant near any bird.

They are bottlebrush, gum & grevillia branches. Cricket always chews on them.

Are these particular plants nuitritous for birds? I notice you have him cropped, does he ever try to fly anywhere away from his daytime haven?

kimforster Jan 03, 2007 05:58 PM

They're native to Australia & vavorites to all parrots & cockatoos. The bottlebrush flowers are good for shredding, gum flowers are eucalyptus, good for them & grevillia are sweet so a favorite also. The nuts & leaves are also good fine.

I don't know what you mean by cropped????

My birds can fly safely (they're clipped because I take them outside) to where ever they like, sometimes they follow me, other times they head to their cages for peace or a nap.

I guess I used the wrong word--I meant "clipped." Also, I understand why you do it--I kept my bird clipped for many years. Now she's age 11 and doesn't seem to want to fly far and wide, so I haven't been clipping her. She will fly across the room from her perch to my shoulder, but that's about it. I've had to stop cutting her toenails also because it would seem to hamper her perching balance after the nails were clipped this past yr. That's why I posted (way back) about "older birds", as I wanted some info on what to expect as my darling ages. No one seemed to have any info tho. Actually she's just mid-age, not older.

This board used to be hopping, back in the day(lol :P). And when I say back in the day, I mean four years ago, when I was thirteen. There used to be about 4 main posters and a few randoms.

If you did the math, I'm 17(In grade 12) and have two tiels:
Buddy my little pain in the butt, chewing, and music machine, and a shy female cinnamon tiel, named Jake(I'm her third owner, the 1st/2nd owners thought she was a boy).

I randomly pop into the boards sometimes, but most of my day is full of school/schoolwork.
