Mean bird after clipping

AndrewJS Apr 04, 2007 01:08 AM

Tango was clipped for the first time and he isnt to happy that he cant do his laps of the room. He still has some flight. I left him 2 primarys on each wing so he could still hop into his cage if he got hungrey or thirstey,
But he is mad, he doesnt bit enough to draw blood but it is harder then what he usally does, although he did have some fun walking around other rooms he would always come back to the bedroom after venturing each room on his way back, he knows his way around the house already from flying around,
I guess i just have to work with him, he will still perch on my finger after a few screams and biting so i duno what i should do that would keep him entertained while out side, I dont want him getting used to being out side of my room cause there is a cat, although i do lock him in the basement if tango is out with me watching tv or somthing, but i need ways to get him to warm up to me

Patience and possible favorite treats or toys might help. You could for a while keep the door shut in the room you are in until he becomes more used to staying in there. If you don't already have a playgym you might invest in one with swings, ladders hanging toys etc to give him something new and entertaining in the room. If it is set up on a stand or table he may be less likely to hop down and leave the room. If he does come back on his own and you no there is no danger to him you might try ignoring him when he leaves the room. Unless he likes solitude he should come back to find you soon (although this wouldn't be my first or safest choice!). If you follow him around when he is leaving the room then he may find this quite entertaining. IF you don't want to try a playgym you could try a playpen type area for him to play within the one room which would also make a safer choice than just letting him wander around.
