I will be upgrading my cage soon.. any size suggestions for a pair of cockatiels would be greatly appreciated.
Turns out that I am going to need to buy a second cage. I need to split these two up. The male is constantly biting at the female and seems really grumpy when she tries to play or interact with me, he goes straight at her and nips. I am guessing they are cage bound. A local breeder here told he sometimes bird that live together don't even like one another. So I guess I am going to get a cage around the same size and put them side by side and see if that helps. It will probably make taming/re-taming easier. I hope...
Yes that should help.
They're no different to you & me. If we didn't like someone, we wouldn't want to live with them.
It's also possible (is it the male bonding to you or tamer?) he is getting jealous of the female being near you too.
Jealousy isn't a big issue & can be easily worked out if that's the case.
I took them out this morning and both were on my shoulders, he didn't like her being there, right away he started fussing at her and biting. I put him back in the cage and left her on my shoulder, she preened my hair and seemed to be happy with me. He was talking and singing while alone in the cage. I think he missed her being in the cage but was more expressive without her. I can't wait to get a second cage and see what he really does know, ok.. what they know. You are totally right with saying we wouldn't live with someone we didn't get along with and they shouldn't have to either. I like my neighbor, but certainly couldn't stand him living in my house. Thanks!
Cockatiels need alot of room in their cages. So the bigger the better..with a flat top usually..
