The strut...

seductivereptile Apr 24, 2007 11:19 AM

My male bird is doing something and I am not sure what type of posturing it is.. but I'm sure in birdy, it means something.
He stands erect, looks intense, opens his wings slightly and makes a beeping noise that sounds like a wake up alarm, occasionally pecking at the female, she does peck back. He does this several times daily, she usually just ignores him and tries to move away from him. I am sure you all are probably very familar with this.. can you help a newbie out and clue me in? I did a search online trying to find out what it means and turned up with nothing of any help. Thanks so much.. again!

Not sure about this but standing erect may be a kind of threat to have the female leave his 'spot' but wings slightly open, I'm guessing heart shaped wings? Can be a male homonal or mating position.

If you don't want them to mate they may need to be seperated.

Yes, they do look heart shaped, interesting... I am watching him do this right now, as they are out together for their morning outing. He is bowing with his crest flat on his head. They are in separate cages when not out, I am not ready for babies. Thanks for trying to help me, I have so much to learn about tiels.
