chook_nookie May 21, 2007 02:39 AM

My male cockatiel has begun to pluck the head feathers of my female. Should I seperate them?

Is the male truly pulling out feathers or maybe just overpreening. When it is close to molting time sometimes they will overpreen each other and will usually stop as the new feathers are growing. Other times they do actually pluck and can cause a bald spot or even bleeding then they will definitely need separated. Keep a close watch if it continues to occur or any bare skin or blood is visibly separate them immediately.
