I just got these two from a firned of mine. His wife hand-fed them, but at the moment, they are a little skiddish and are settling in. Was wonndering is someone could tell me what they are. One is a normal grey I can tell that. The mom was a Lutino and the ddad was a Grey... thanks for any assistance..

Gosh, what beautiful, healthy-looking, cresty birds! Especially the latino-headed one who is gray. Wanna give him up (LOL)? They both look like males to me with those bright orange cheeks, but I am no expert.

The second looks like either a dirty faced pied or a pastel faced light pied.

If they're under 6 months old you can't tell their age. Bright orange cheek pactches don't indicate their sex because both male & female are equally capable of having very bight oranges patches or dull patches.

The normal grey, once matured will have a bright yellow head if male, no changes if female.

The pieds are extremely difficult to sex visually.

Your pied is beautiful.

Thank you They are both about 3 months or so... I can't remember exactly when they harched out, but I jsut got them yesterday. They are starting to warm up a little, but I think it is a slow process as they were quite attached to my friends wife.. Hopefully they will come around. They are eating like little pigs, so thats a good sign. When I can get some better pics of them, I will post more. Thanks again.

What a couple of beauties.. congrats!! I am certainly no expert and cannot help with the sexing, I just wanted to add something as far as getting them bonded to you. I have a pair of rescues and they were very skittish at first. I kept handfeeding cheerios and water crackers.. water crackers are a fav of my male but my female loves my bracelet, and it is actually getting them right where I want them.. friendly and trusting. While I (and everyone else here) wouldn't recommend jewelry as a treat so to speak, it helps me get her out of her cage and onto my hand, she doesn't get to chew (she gets cheerios once out) on it, I just use it as eye candy, although I'm teasing her, it works. Try to find a treat that they like and offer it sparingly while talking to them gently. I hope this helps, keep us posted with the progress and pics. Take care!
