Egg on bottom of cage

buddyboat Feb 07, 2007 08:41 AM

I have a bonded pair of CAG's.

There's a nestbox on their cage. I have seen both birds in and out of the box (from time to time) for the last 2 months.

The male does act silly around her because it's breeding season, but I have never seen any breeding take place.

Anyway, my hen layed an egg on the bottom of their cage last night.

Any thoughts???

Thanks !

Is this her first egg? Have they been visiting the nest box regularly? Many birds especially on the first clutch will not use their nest box and will even produce eggs that are not fertile. Try to find ways to entice them into their nest box. I have never bred African Greys so I am not real well versed on the type of nest box they like best. I am guessing you did your research and picked a box made especially for african greys or at least one that it is noted they usually like. I know some birds like their nest boxes in certain areas of the cage better and moving their nest box using different bedding materials etc can make it more desirable for them, and some like certain shapes or sizes of boxes better. Keep trying and hopefully someone else can give better help with the actual breeding of african greys.
