my budgie lost some wing feathers

greenneyedlady Mar 18, 2007 03:01 PM

I have 2 female budgies. One I've have for over a year and the other I've had 4 month. I don't know their ages. They seem to get along fairly well; grooming each other and stuff with an occasional squabble. My newest budgie seems to have lost 4 of her long wing feathers in the past 2 days. Now her one wing is smaller than the other. Her behavior hasn't changed. I don't know if she or the other bird plucked them or if they just fell out for some reason. Would appreciate any advice anyone could offer. These are the first budgies we've had in our family and we love them both dearly.

Thanks

Well they do molt and can lose feathers at that time. Keep a close eye on them for the next few days and make sure it is not being picked on excessively by the other birds. I really haven't heard of many budgies plucking themselves although some will pluck out their feathers in an area they have been injured. Has this bird ever had a wing injury that you know of? Is it tame enough or are you able to hold it to look the wing over and see if there is any damage to it?
