Are you able to obtain a bird of paradise of any type? If so, where can you get them. If not, why? I breed reptiles, but have a m. cockatoo and a magpie. I have lots of reading about these beautful birds but have never heard of a captive one. They are wonderful animals. Please help.

Thanks,
CC

P.S. I have a small old wire silo in my yard i let the birds play in. About 10' wide by 20' tall.

Yes you can buy birds of paradise. Just on a quick search I saw a pet store and breeder in Kansas and one in Virginia. If you do a google search for bird of paradise and breeder or pet store you should be able to find more.

It's great that you let your birds have time outside. Be careful of the "wire silo" though as many wires are zinc coated and can cauze zinc poisoning in your birds. Most don't show up with it for a while but it builds up in their systems until it causes severe medical problems and even death. Many of your "hardware cloth" and "chicken mesh" type metals are coated in zinc.

Good luck!
