What does this behavior mean?

Elenacam May 17, 2007 03:13 PM

One of my birds has the habits of slightly separating her wings from her body, often, while opening and closing her beack, when "chitchatting" with her mate or even when I talk to her, and sometimes just because.
I thought that that was a sign of aggression or fear, but I am certain than in most cases she is neither scared nor mad, nor hot (SOMETIMES she does it when the weather is hot, but most times it has nothing to do with the temperature around).
Her mate reacts normally and so do the other birdies, as if it were a normal thing. But I am clueless as of what it means and why she does thatto me too, very often.
She is a happy birdie, as far as I can tell, by the way. She is not fearful, she gets along wonderfully with her mate, etc.
Any idea of what this all means?

This can be a sign of aggression, fear or heat like you have mentioned but it can also show signs of breeding interest. I believe a lot has to do with the type of chirping going on at the same time. For the heat they will usually have more of a panting action. For aggression or fear their chirps will sound very stressed, sometimes very loud. For breeding usually their chirps will be of a normal volume, they may show attention towards mainly one bird, and they may have a gentler almost cooing sound to the chirps.

I think, then, that this pudgie budgie is so fat by now that she gets hot too soon! *LOL*
Oh God, how can she be so glouton? She really needs the strict diet!
