Wild Bird Seed

carmeny May 20, 2007 09:08 PM

I always buy my lovebirds and cockatiels the same bag of seed from the store (they get fresh veggies along with the seed). and I always buy the one that says it is for those birds. My question is - can they be fed wild bird seed (the kind with millet, sunflowers seeds, peanuts, etc) that i put in my birdfeeder outside? I am just wondering!

From what I understand the main differences are that wild bird seed contains more fat since the birds eating it are getting more exercise and also they may contain more seeds native to our area instead of ones that are native to the place of origin with the pet birds. Other than those I am not sure of any differences. I am "guessing" that the wild bird seed would probably be fine as a treat but would offer too much fat etc for a healthy daily diet.
