I never had lovebirds before, about 8 months ago I bought a pair from Petco store for my 5-year old daughter. This morning I saw two eggs in the cage, right on the rack floor... I was not prepared... I am buying them a nest box and nesting material today on my way back from work and anything else I would be advised to buy in the store...
Few questions:
1. How long can eggs be on a rack without damage? And is there a "grace" between when the eggs layed and when the hen starts sitting on them?
2. Should I put them into a nest box myself? I think birds will not be able to place them there.
3. Is this normall for lovebirds to lay eggs without having a nest or nesting box? I know that canaries do not do that if they have no nest in the cage.

I already read some tips on how to feed and comfort lovebirds when they are sitting their eggs, but any advise will still be appreciated.
I am not a breeder and absolutely not planning to become one, but I would still love to see some offspring of our birds. If they will hatch OK I have no idea what to do with them, except buying a new cage and having more birds than two we already have...
