Mazzy is my first Parrot. I love her she is the best. The first few days she was very talkative, and cuttaly, she really is awsome. She has no aggression and spends most of her day outside the cage ( on my sholder) She has a lot of toys but does not play with them? Anyway for about the last week or so she has stopped talking. She does screech when spoken to, right in my ear by the way. There is no more " I love you" No more "give me kiss" No more dancing just screeching. I am just concerned that i missed something. Is it normal? She does still cuttle with me, sleep under my chin, rubs her beak on my face etc. But she will not talk or do any of the other things she was doing last week. Please help what did I do wrong.

Since you have only had her a few weeks the first question I would ask is has she had a vet checkup, a full one? If not this would be the time to do it. A change in behavior can be for many reasons. One is definitely sickness which is why I asked about vet checkups. Next she could have gotten scared or startled by something and is taking a while to settle back down. Next did you maybe not pay much attention to her for a day or a couple days? Some birds will basically "pout" if ignored for a little while and will not speak or will become nippy but will usually go back to normal after a bit. Also how old is she? If an adult she could be either getting ready for a molt, going into breeding season (even though this isn't necessarily the time for those it can be different in each individual bird) during those times their personalities can change as well.

Either way the first step if not already done would be a vet checkup. Next make sure she is getting enough sleep, 10-12 hours a night works best. Then make sure her diet is good with lots of fresh foods and a pellet basis (seeds are fine added in with the other food or as a treat but not as the main diet). lastly be patient, love her, play with her and talk to her constantly.

Thank you so much for your response. Yes she went to the vet the day before I brought her home because this is my policy with any new animal. She got a clean bill of health and I had her wrist band removed. She is actually a lot better today, a lot more like herself. I think what was happening was to much time with the kids and she was just sick of having to preform all the time. She spends hardly any time in her cage. 3 hours in the afternoon after lunch and then just at bedtime. Most of her time is spent out and with us. She seems to enjoy it but it is a bit of a change from the life alone in the cage before she moved in with us. Thanks again for your response.
