Itching? Biting? Wings a little low?

FrostDragon Jul 24, 2007 04:59 PM

I've had two parakeets for about 7-8 years. They're not the same age, and one of them is older than the other (obviously). They've had mite before, but we took them to the vet and everything for that was solved. The older one now, (Sugar) is constantly itching and biting herself (or cleaning...?) underneath her wings. Her wings have looked different to me for about a week now, they're really long, and constantly seeming like they're dragging (we don't clip they're wings because we can never train them) and they're a little torn up looking. Her feathers are a little out of place. I must include that our birds fight a lot, they bite eachother and are, most of the time aggressive. But I don't think that has anything to do with it, but I'm starting to get worried. We're leaving tomorrow for a week-long vacation, so we won't be able to take care of them. The birds will be fine, we've left them like this before, we go crazy with making sure about their food and water before we leave. I'm just worried about coming back home and seeing that Sugar's worse.

Thanks, in advance, and I will make sure to see your replies when I get back, Kierstyn.

I have noticed that in my older budgie she is looking the same. She is old and that is why she looks the way that she does, oldness is taking over I am sorry to say. However biting and itching could be a cause of a few things, molt, mites, or dry skin, it's hardto tell I would have to see for myself. Take her to the vet for a check, that is the best thing you could do for her.
