Big Droppings Question

Elenacam Aug 21, 2007 12:03 PM

Remember I had a pudby budgie and was worried about her? she had this bump in her lower stomach, and I freaked out. She was too lazy and would not move much, worse, her mate would regurgitate food for her and that made her only bigger!
Well, after changing her diet, adding vitamins and forcing her to fly and move a lot more (yes, I was a pest, but I had to get her moving), after buying toys until I found some that interested her and made her move a lot, she lost that extra weight and now the bump is not there and she is the image of health again... except that... well, maybe it is not bad?... she has this huge droppings! Well, huge when compared to my other budgies! Same color and shape as it always was for her, but the volume is the one of a larger bird!! Do some budgies indeed have larger droppings than others?
I am taking some preventive measures, giving her preventive doses of medication in case she had some "little beasts" growing in her digestive tract or something. But she seems to be just fine... just has this large droppings that make me go WOW, eww
Last dropping analysis she had (some months ago) everything was fine. Apparently, she is healthy, apparently it's just the volume that is weird. Has that ever happened with a bird of yours?
(On a sidenote, she is now back to her "slender" self, but she still is a huge budgie, compared to others, always has been bigger than most, even as a baby... she was a big baby).

I would say this is quite normal. Many birds will have different sized droppings even in the same species. Most often they will have one larger dropping during the day such as first thing in the morning then it will be back to normal size from then on. As long as you have had a fecal done and your bird shows know other changes then I am sure you have a now happy healthy budgie on your hands. Great job in seeing a problem with your birds weight and striving to get it under control.

Thanks so much for the feedback!
It is relieving to hear that!
Yes, thank God the birdie lost so much weight that I joke with her: "hello, my ex pudgie budgie!"
You know? I am relieved to hear what you say because, indeed, she seems to have those humongous droppings in the morning, soon after she's finally awoke.
Thanks
