My new addition

seductivereptile Oct 07, 2007 08:13 PM

This was a Sun Conure that I fell in love with months ago, but due to all negative feedback on their noisy calls I didn't get him/her. Well, she/he lives with me now.. yep, I took the plunge. LOL Today is the first day of the rest of our lives together. What do you all think about my new baby?

The DNA test results came back today.. its a boy!! Now I need a cute name. He's not too loud yet, he has only been with me a week so we will see if he gets louder. I wonder how my Senegal will react to him.. I hope they can at least share the play stand. Any name suggestions?

Such a cutie. We have a female sun conure named Milo (adopted with this name). As far as names, it depends on which direction do you want to head in. I have always personally thought that sun conures with their bright colors remind me of a basket of fruit so I like names like Mango, Kiwi, or Tangie (like tangerine). You could also go for "sun" type names for sun conure such as Sunny or Kaoli (morning glory in hawaiian). You could even go with names like Tiki, Hoku, or Manu which are more Hawaiian type names. Or my last suggestion would be Phoenix because my husband always says when Milo gets wet he looks like he's on fire with his bright colors.

We personally don't mind the loud screams but working in the rescue 24/7 (LOL!) we get used to it! Some people though buy them and then notice their loud screams and can't deal with it. Like Milo's previous owner and Mango and Tangie who were both in the rescue.

I tried to escape this guy for 6 months.. finally, I gave up trying and brought him home. He's not too loud, my Senegal is just as loud when he's having fun. The funny thing is watching the Senegal trying to match the Sun, lol he tries as hard as he can, but is no match for the Sun, then he gets mad and starts fighting with the bells in his cage.. maybe he's trying to get them to ring as loud as the Sun.. lots of laughs! I am loving the personality differences of the two. I actually tried to find a Sun Conure that needed to be re-homed and we don't have much here for rescues, especially if you have other pets (dogs & cats) they don't like to send birds to homes with mixed pets, I understand the dangers but my animals really do get on well with each other. I didn't want to buy from a petstore either but it was love at first sight.
