Just thought I would share a new picture of our little goffins Gizmo. She is now about 10 months old. In the picture she is playing with one of the new toys we made for her. We make toys for the rescue both for the birds to have and then to sell to help support the rescue. She gets to test them all for the medium to large birds and quite enjoys her job!!
Besides being able to say anything she has heard whether once or several times she is quite the little escape artist. We have one of those cages (I think its a kings cage) where you have the lift the latch up and then slide it over and she had that one solved by the time she was 5 months. We then started putting on one of those plastic children's links and she started taking it off. We now have three childrens links on there and she can come out quite easily any time she wants. Don't worry if we are going to be away we put a padlock on her cage so she won't be out flying around getting into trouble while we are gone.
She also picks up tricks faster than anything. She will step up, fly on command and come on command, wave, shake hands, go perch, "drink tea" (not actual tea just anything we put in her little teacup, usually a treat) and toss a ball. We are working on several more now and she just loves it. Also contrary to what most articles say about goffins having a short attention span or not working for treats she is just the opposite. She will work for hours on the same trick, the same escape or the same toy and will do anything for a peanut, LOL! Just goes to show that birds are individuals not a group.
Just wanted to brag for a while LOL! Come on and share your cockatoo stories a well.
