Hi, i'm new here, just wanted to say hello. This is my 1st post. I was just wondering if there were others here with Meyer's Parrots? I have Chico, he is my 17 year old Meyer's. He is my baby. He does not accept anyone else but me. He will fly off his cage to attack my husband if he is in the same room. He has a passion for any wood objects he can destroy, love to hang upside down while i swing him slowly on a perch, (now that is trust.) and loves to sit on my shoulder and snuggle in my neck. He has a weird anger towards shoes and coats. I have no idea where that came from. I also have 2 dogs, a AKC lab and a Basenji mix. I have a 3 year old son as well. I live in Lincoln NE. Would love to hear from others!

Hi! I don't personally have a meyers but have worked with them through the sanctuary/rescue. There is a board specifically for meyers, senegals etc on this birdhobbyist site where you might find more members with your same type of bird as you.

I have noticed that many of the meyers find certain items to take out aggression on. Some might do this with toys or a certain perch, some will pick a certain piece of future, others like yours shoes, feet or coats and still others may aim their aggression at a certain person. I would much rather the shoes than a person LOL! Be patient, make sure he has lots of toys to fight and play with and he may start calming down about the shoes.

Some birds have learned that putting on a coat means you are leaving and they will be left alone. In those instances they will show aggression because they want attention. If this is when yours is showing the aggression try to make leaving less stressful. Give him a treat or new toy right before you are going to be leaving and a treat when you return to show it is not such a bad thing.

Keep the pictures coming we love to see everyones new feathered friends and their older trusted feathered family members as well.
