Hello my name is Nev.
I have had in the past a Congo Grey and Patagonian Conure so I am experienced with birds. I'm not an expert but I'm not an idiot.
Me and my wife recently purchased a baby Severe Macaw, on Saturday. He is still on 3 times a day hand feeding and has most of his baby feathers so he is not a hatchling.
Last night we were feeding him his last meal for the day and for some reason possible due to my own error, he bite me...twice. one time he bit because i was trying to get him to perch(he was getting close to the edge of the counter and i did not want him to fall) the other time just when i was pulling my hand away from feeding him. Me and my wife were shocked at this. all day we were socializing with him talking to him, cuddiling him and then this happens! so after we got done feeding him we put him away for the night.
This morning we let him come out of his cage on his own and then feed him in our kitchen. He made a mess of himself(as most baby birds do) so we brought him into our shower with us. We had him pretty high up on our shower stall no too high. During our shower we would talk to him, sprinkle him with water and what not. When we were finished it was time to put him back but he wanted nothing of it. Every time i would ask him to step up he would try to bite me! it took almost 45 minutes for him to get down, we actual had to cup him in our hands to get him down.
I;m just nervous that we have an aggressive bird, or we are giving him too much socialization too early. any one have any advice for a concerned bird owner?
thanks.
