Compact Fluorescent Ballast

Homer1 Oct 12, 2003 04:30 PM

I'm setting up a 10 gallon that I hope to have up and running within a week or two. However, I'm trying to make a decision as to how to go with the lighting setup. I'd like to go with one 40 w c/f bulb over the tank, but I can't find a place that sells the ballast and holder for these, so I might have to go with 3 13 watt bulbs (more heat, more bulk).

I have several 40w compact fluorescent bulbs (2-pin, 2-tube) and bulb holders, and two ballasts which are designed to run 3 bulbs each. I was wondering if anyone knows where to buy a 40 w electronic ballast and holder to run just one of these bulbs.

I've checked McMasters-Carr, but they only seem to go up to 23 w ballasts, and they don't have the holders for my tubes.

Any help would be appreciated.

40 watt Ballast

I have a standard Phillips 4 pin (2G11) 40 watt (40W/30/RS) 2-tube "long" c/f . Thanks for the link, but if I'm reading it right, those ballasts are for direct current lines, and I want to use this in my house--A/C durrent. Further, $60 seems really steep for a ballast, particularly when I can buy 13 w ballasts for $5.33. I'm guessing it's because those 40 w ballasts are DC maybe it's just the tubes I have that require a lesser used ballast. Anyway, I'm leaning more towards the 13 w route right now.

Thanks for the link. I'll look through the rest of the pages to see if they have anything that might work.

Try Hellolights.com They should have the ballast you need. Or they can get it.
