Reoccurring Mite Problem...Please Help

peterfromme Feb 07, 2003 10:04 AM

Hi,
About 3 weeks ago I noticed that my boa had mites. I applied Reptile Relief to the boa and the cage. I repeated the process twice.
I checked her periodically and she looked fine. BUT just yesterday I noticed that she had mites on her again.
This time I filled up the 20 gallon long with water and bleach. I let it sit for 20 minutes and flushed if thoroughly.
I applied the reptile relief to her and the tank again. Her tank only consists of newspaper, a water bowl, temp/humid gauge, and cardboard hide box.
What could possibly be causing the reoccurring mites?
Is there anything else that I can do?
I bought her online from a store in Florida (I live in NY). Is it a good possibility that they were from the store?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I don't know anything about reptile relief or how well it works. We have always used provent a mite, we treat an animal when it arrives to avoid any mite problems. Do you have any other snakes? And if so do they have them? Bleaching the tank was a good idea, BUT is there anything wooden around her cage. Mites can travel and if they get inbedded in wood nearby you also need to treat that. Vacuum any carpet you have and throw out the bag. I don't know what's causing it but you must not be getting rid of all the eggs. Like I said I have no clue about reptile relief, we have never used it. Hope this helps some

I have always used Proventamite since it came out, and rarely have had a problem with them reoccurring. I haven't used Reptile Relief, so I can't say anything about that product.
