Where are you at? I've got a couple pet pigeons you could have, but I'm in Michigan.
Pigeons really aren't common as companion pets, most people raise them for racing, flying or show. But any of these birds should make good pets too, if you get them young and handle them. Try looking for poultry swaps in your area. I'll post a link to a list of them. Besides chickens, there are usually lots of pigeons at these swaps. You might also want to try pigeon shows, even 4-H shows as the exhibitors often have birds for sale. I've found a lot more local breeders at these sorts of get-togethers than I've ever found online. You can ship pigeons too, but the shipping usually costs more than the birds, and for just a couple of pets I'd try to find some locally.
I have an orphaned barn pigeon, I hand-raised him and he's very tame and a decent pet. Pretty clever, too -- he is tamest with me and doesn't let anyone else pick him up. His "wife" is a fantail, they have babies all the time. If you're anywhere near here, you're welcome to the two they have in the nest right now!
