My husband and I adopted two mallard ducks this summer, a male and a female, and they now stay around our house. They never leave the yard, only fly around a bit. What I was concerned about is that the female has begun nesting. I know that they usually do not lay their eggs until the spring, but here it is November, and she has quite a few eggs in her nest. We live in Northern Iowa and the nights as well as the days have begun to get quite cold, and the ducklings would not hatch until December. We're not sure if there is anything we should be doing to help her out, or if we should leave her alone. Is there any chance of these ducklings surviving being born in the winter? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
