Mute Swans

Aidan Jan 11, 2005 07:32 AM

My wife and I are considering adding a young pair of Mute Swans to our small menagerie of waterfowl..A Gray Toulouse Goose, and four White Pekin Ducks now share our very large pond...We've been doing our research, but would like to hear everyone's personal experiences, and suggestions as to diet, enclosures, etc. Also, hatcheries only offer young pairs, our daughters wanted to raise them from babies like we did with our other birds...Are there any hatcheries that offer cygnets??..Thanks in advance...

Hey,

I've never really had much experiance with swans, so i don't want to say anything thats not correct. But i would imagine that swans would need a very large amount of space as well as a large amount of water, but as you have a large pond that wouldn't be a problem. I live in the UK, and and most other people seem to live in the USA so if thats where you live i can't suggest any breeders or hatcheries, sorry.
Even if you can only buy a pair thats already a few weeks old, if you get a male (cob) and female (pen).. (i think thats the correct names ), then in a few years you may get they chance to hatch them yourselves.

Sorry i can't help much..
