Egg binding help!

Mourningdovekiss Mar 18, 2005 06:25 PM

My female morning dove has been trying to lay an egg for almost two days straight! We cannot take her to the veterenarian seeing that she is illegal here. Does anyone have any advise to help her get the pesky egg out of her? I have tried calcium and sugar water to help her with contractions but it doesn't seem to help very much.
(P.S. The egg is very large. Larger than it should be at least)
Please Help!

I found an article that suggests using sterile K-Y Jelly on her vent. Here's part one of the article. Hope it helps

Thank you very much for the help. We found a very nice veterinarian that has taken care of it. He said if we wouldn't have taken her that day she probably would have passed away. He tried to use KY Jelly also, but because her uterus muscles were actually closed around the egg they were so tightened, he had to collapse the egg inside of her. Now, Thank Lord, she is on the road to recovery. Although she has to have a heating pad underneath her cage and 16 hours of dark a day for 3 days, he said that she should be fine. I much appreciate your concern.

Thank you, Madison
