incubation problems

cherrycircus Apr 14, 2005 10:00 PM

hi, i had earlier posted a message about my eggs not going to full term. right now i have a few eggs incubating and they seem to be incubating a little faster that what is normal. the origanal eggs were rouens and i believe it was a genetic inbreed problem . the new eggs are muscovy roeun . the heartbeat and eyes were visible within a few days. we collect the eggs every day so there hasnt been any sit time. is this normal with a mix breed? my daughter is using this as her year end project and of course we want all the little ducks to survive. does anyone have any advice. the ducks have laid on their own , we are just having incubator troubles. thanks, ilesha

Hey,

I'm sorry to hear your having problems again, incubation is dependant on several things, but mainly hunidity and temperature.
Are the eggs cleaned well, otherwise bacteria could enter the egg and cause illness or infection?
If you've got a female Muscovy you could let her sit on a few eggs, they're very good sitters.
If a Muscovy is bred with any other ducks, (other than another Muscovy) the offspring with be mules and therefore won't be fertile, so you won't be able to breed those.
I hope this works out for you.
