Is my pigeon ok?

Brianaprothero Apr 22, 2005 12:41 AM

Hello, I usually know all I need to know about pigeons. I've bred them and know abit, but I also tend to over react. This pigeon is a new breed to be. He's one of those escape artists that I decided to keep. Anyway I suspect he's probably a roller by what he looks like. He was very easy to catch and just a real gentle pigeon. He does know how to fly because he flew away afew times but was trying so hard to dig for food, so much so that he ignored me when I got so close. He walks and runs fine. I thought he was beautiful so I took him home to my indoor cage with my other fancy pigeon. I gave him food and water and he ate and drank. he was starving. Now is he just resting? Is there any experienced people who can tell me what's just relaxing or if he's not feeling good? He is laying on the bottom of the cage. He's alert in his eyes, and seems to be breathing alright. His crop is hard, probably by the full belly. And weirdest is how when standing up he tucks one leg under his belly, is this something to worry about? So far there's no permanent fuffing, just the ocasional stretch. He was dark solid poops. He may be tierd but I want to make sure there's nothing wrong with him. Any opinions? Is he ok, should I look for any certain things? Just till I am sure I put a devider in the cage so they cant have close contact. They were already grooming eachother but I wanna make sure he's not going to get my other one sick or anything. He's captive bred and has a band , I just hope he wasent outside too long. Is it possible in any time they could catch anything outside? If these questions could be answered, i'd be so greatfull. Thanks
