Thinking of getting geese........can you help me out????

johndoe10688 May 30, 2005 07:48 PM

Hi i have been thinking about getting some geese eggs and hatching
them out using a hovabator. I just want to make sure my home/yard is
ok for geese. At first they would be in my house of course so i can't
see my home having any problems. But when they go to my back yard i am
not sure. I have a big in-ground swimming pool and a lot of my back
yard is cement......then there is an area of dirt/grass.......this
area is probably about the size of a large bed room. Here are a couple
possable stupid questions i also have.

1. Do these geese fly(ive read that most don't)???
2. Will they be OK during the winter in NJ?
3. Is it leagal for me to have them in my back yard in NJ?
4. Since i have a pool, will they make use of it? Will they poop in
it? Will drinking the chlorinated water harm them?

Thanks!
John

Drinking chlorinated water is harmless to them; a duck owner that I know asked their vet and that was their reply. I'm sure chlorine is fine for geese too.

Well i know for a fact it is not great for them, but was the vet reffering to pool water or chlorinated tap water, because there is much more chlorine in pool water than in tap water. And this is an importantant question......will they poop in the pool?? lol

Thanks
John

i have (3) rouen ducks - they have a small pond - when i empty and put fresh water in, they poop immediately!
