stupid duck

kelz Jun 12, 2005 03:40 AM

Hey i own a pekin duck (male, i think)and hes about 5months old. Basically he always gets very scared around me and other humans. if i try to walk up to him he'll just run away, after i finally catch him and put him in my lap he'll get comfortable. is this normal, also about a week ago my chihuahua drowned in our pond the duck was close with it and it actually saw it die. I think it is still abit shaken up by it. I just don't know how to tame him to be friendly. Any suggestions??

Did you haev him since he was a duckling? And did he always act like this or only after the dog died?
I've had my Muscovies since they were 1 day old ducklings. Once i went away for a month and when I came back, they had forgotten who I was... but after a while of me being nice to them and stuff, they kind of liked me again.
i read somewhere that if you touch a duck ro put it on its back it will immediately calm down because that is what a predator will do to it if it was a wild duck. One of my ducks doesnt seem to mind being patted, though.

HOPEFULLY... your draek will like you soon...
