Ducks and Rabbits

iyiy Jul 07, 2005 10:03 PM

My brother is getting a rabbit soon, and I was wondering if ducks get along with rabbits. Or do I have to train them not to bite, as one of my ducks is very fierce to anyone other than me? Also, are there any diseases fatal to rabbits/ ducks that the other
type carries?

Thanks to everyone who helps.

i do have ducks and rabbits and they coexist quite nicely. i did however have the rabbits first. they never seemed to mind the ducks. during the day they are all aloud outside together in a large pen. at night they are all housed seperately.

I have kept a rabbit with two mallards for a bit. The ducks chased the bunny a bit, but bunny had a special ramp and house above the ducks to get away. I dont know about diseases??

rabbits body temerature is much different from the ducks so your chances of one getting anything from the other is very slim. one disease that each can get but not from each other is if the have access to any form of mold whether it be in their food or on somehing else. it can make them very sick. we have 2 rabbits living with our 8 ducks and have never had a problem on occasion the ducks will chase the rabbits or vise versa. but no harm ever done. we have a 20 lb. rabbit and a 2 lb. and have had no problems . they are in an outside enclosed pen and at night everyone goes into thier houses the ducks have a seperate house from the rabbits.
