rouen duck eggs

sandy0066 Aug 02, 2005 01:22 PM

my (rouen) ducks are laying about an egg a day each. the nest is clean, but their eggs are all dirty (poopy). the chickens are laying their eggs in the duck house too, but they are clean. do ducks push the eggs around with their bottom after they are layed? the egg i collected this morning wasn't so bad, but all of last week's eggs are filthy, which brings me to another question. should i wash them before i put them in the fridge? or wait until they are eaten? thanks

if the eggs are really soiled you need to toss them. when you through them into the garbage crack them open first as the eggs can incubate in the trash. i always wash my eggs before i put them in the fridge as eggs will absorb whatever is on them.

oh no, we've been throwing chicken eggs in the garbage for months. thanks for telling me that! i guess i'll toss the ducky eggs that are dirty (most of them are). again, thanks, sandy
