I'm new.... what is the most popular "pet" chicken breed................

BIG DONNIE BRASC Sep 20, 2005 10:04 PM

I have daughter that will be 3 next Feb, and I am wanting to get her a pet chicken / rooster.
I have had several pet chickens and roosters over the years, but I just made "pets" of the barn yard chickens.
I see a lot of posts about silkies, do they make better pets than other breeds?
I am an over protective dad, and when I was a kid I had a pet crow that LOVED to try and peck your eys (real nice).
Any of you ever had a chicken do that?
Thanks a TON for any input!!!

Don

Sorry this is late, its a slow board and i only check once in a while. I have my first silkie chicken, a rooster. He was dumped at the canal and i rescued him. He is very sweet, i dont know why someone would dump him. he is docile and handles confinment very well. I think silkies make excellect pets, thats what i would go for if i wanted a good pet chicken. I want to get him a girlfriend since my other chickens dont like him...more like scared of him (he is so tiny, and they are big, go figure), but i dont hink i will get him one anythime soon...
