Egg Laying Stopped

malahusk Oct 01, 2005 10:38 PM

I have a one year old Indian Runner female, who started to lay eggs when she was 32 weeks old. Then after 4 months of laying an egg every day, she just stopped. It has now been over a month and no more eggs. She is healthy, no problems. Nothing has changed in their enviroment, so I don't think it is stress related. Is this normal?
My other duck, exact same age, is 1/2 Runner 1/2 Swedish Crested, and started laying at the same age and is still laying daily. She will maybe miss one day a month.
Anyone know what suddenly stopped egg production in my Runner?
Thanks!!!

Hey,

Although Indian Runners were bred for egg-laying, some do have a break mainly during the winter months. I've had several Runner females that would go the whole Winter without laying any eggs.
If their still eating well, show no signs of dramtic weight change (although they do lose a little bit of weight during egg laying periods), and theres no other signs of ill health then i wouldn't worry about it.
