I recently discovered that my Rouen duck was a drake and since then, I've had at least 20 different mallard ducks visit our lake. I have ten ducks and only three are sexually mature right now, one being the Rouen and the others being 'assumed' female runners. I'll admit that I'm irresponsible and put my ducks on our lake at 8 weeks and let them do their thing, providing food and shelter for them whenever they stop on our beach. Until now, there haven't been ANY wild ducks on our lake and I'm afraid that come spring, I'll have lots of half-breed babies that won't be able to fly due to the mixed genes. A duck breeder I talked to suggested 'getting rid' of the drake and I'm assuming she meant for me to kill him but he's pretty and I like him too much to kill him. My ducks never 'imprinted' on me and my youngest ones like my step dad more so I can't exactly round them up by myself. Does anyone have any experience with wild/domestic crossbreeding and is it a problem?
